COOL SHIRTS BUYING GUIDES / Style
Choosing a music shirt without defaulting to a band logo
A music shirt can say something personal through an instrument, a listening habit or an original visual rhythm. You do not need a familiar band name to make the reference clear. Start with the wearer’s relationship to music.
Choose the right instrument
An acoustic guitar, an electric guitar and a drum kit offer very different shapes. If the recipient plays, use an instrument they actually enjoy. Look at the basic details rather than treating any musical illustration as interchangeable. A general music-listener graphic works when you do not know their instrument or genre.
Keep lettering and notation intentional
A short original phrase can support the artwork without relying on song lyrics. If notation appears, check that it has a deliberate purpose rather than adding random notes as filler. Familiar artist names, logos and lyrics should not be assumed available for printing on custom clothing.
Think about their usual wardrobe
A small instrument illustration can work under an open shirt; a large graphic may be the focus of a weekend outfit. Choose the print scale and color contrast accordingly. Check the garment measurements for the preferred silhouette instead of assuming every music tee should have a vintage or oversized fit.
